Great Britain
Dog licensing was abolished in 1987. Prior to this, dog licences were mandatory, but the requirement was widely ignored, with only about half of owners having one. The final rate for a dog licence was 37 pence. This fee was reduced from 37½p when the halfpenny was withdrawn in 1984. This odd figure was itself a conversion from 7/6 (seven shillings and sixpence) on decimalisation in 1971. The revenue went to local authorities.
Northern Ireland
Dog licences continue to exist, under the Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983. A dog licence costs £5.00 / year, or £2.50 for pensioners.
Republic of Ireland
Dog licencing exists. Individual dog licences cost €12.70 / year, and general licences (allowing unlimited dogs) are €252.42.
Germany
Dog ownership is regulated by a "dog tax" as opposed to a dog licence, with the amount due depending on the breed of the dog: dogs deemed "dangerous" (such as Rottweilers) are subject to higher taxation. Aside from the fiscal impl of dogs in a particular area.
United States
Most states, municipalities, or other jurisdictions require dog licences along with rabies vaccination, and the licence duration cannot exceed the time the vaccine is effective. As a way of preventing the overpopulation of animals, some jurisdictions will charge a significantly lower licencing fee, if the owner presents veterinary proof that their pet has been spayed or neutered.

I think most women put something on their skins besides water even if only cocoa butter or coconut oil...having said that, I'm not including the very, very poor of our world, who probably don't even get clean water to wash their faces in...a very unfair world and one I wish I could change for the better...GBHs...XXX

I now live in Cornwall,U.K. but originally came from Cape Town,South Africa.Came to the U.K. in 1961,returned to South Africa in 1974.When my daughters finished school and University they both returned here and later my eldest daughter,Michelle, to New York. So I returned to U.K. in 1997 to be nearer my daughters.Michelle has a lovely son,Simeon,he has just turned 9 !

I read this with interest.I thought the word "working class" was not used anymore.May I be facetious and say todays "NO working class" is more like it.I live in Cornwall and am appalled at the amount of foreigners that are brought in every year to pick daffodils and strawberries.Yet hundreds do not accept jobs offered to them by Jobseeking---WHY--because it is infra dig to pick Daffodils ?? Why work when you can be paid to buy cigarettes,booze, have irresponsible sex---yes the government will pay for this too. Are my upper middle class opinions showing ?? In this supposedly non racial country men should be happy to work shoulder to shoulder with the foreigners.Maybe not--are these foreigners putting them to shame for NOT wanting to work ? Rant ended.

I suspect there is something more subtle going on and its the other way round: its not that British men won't do a job and so we turn to the immigrants, its that once a job starts getting done by immigrants, British men don't want to do it so much: it becomes a low status job in their eyes. I think some if this is about the way the British like to form tribes at workplaces: once they see immigrants working in a place they know they are not going to have the same camaraderie they seek. No amount of management top down cajoling can recreate these feelings of 'belonging' through their artificial team building exercises. Add to that the 'diversity' training, PC language requirements and the job satisfaction of being part of a gang of mates has gone for many working class blokes.

With you on that post Ruth, most people do see the results of their work during their life time, they must be a special type of person to do the job that they do, not much joy in being a "top name" when you are dead.

I've recorded it because had seen too much tv yesterday and had things to watch later on...so yet to see it...was with SETI for many years doing the checks for them on my comp, then they changed over to another system and it didn't work on my comp, which was a great shame...all our passwords and usernames seem to have been lost in the change over so couldn't get mine to function again...didn't get an answer either when pointed it out to them...hmmm...never mind, did try...and I wish now I could live a lot longer just to see what might happen, but usually things don't happen when expected...often another hundred or so years in the future, so think we'd both have to live a damned long time to see what we would both like to see HLOL...big hugs...

slap me for sticking my nose in...i notice that when you are replying you create a new post....if you click on reply to post within the comment box the person who commented will get an e-mail to say you have replied but if you create a new box they wont know you came back to reply to them and the might not visit to see.. hope that makes sense......
